Coffee, Calibrated.
Caffeine is personal, but coffee rarely treats it that way. We created Gradience, a bottled coffee brand that turns caffeine from a fixed ingredient into something people can choose based on the person, the day, and the moment.

The Opportunity
People rely on caffeine every day, yet the category offers little transparency or control. Most choices still exist at the extremes, full caffeine or decaf, even though individual needs fall somewhere in between.
What would it look like to rethink caffeine entirely?
Research
We identified a growing audience of control seekers and intentional reducers who still valued the ritual of coffee but wanted greater control over its effects. Some were already splitting drinks or diluting coffee because nothing in the category was designed around their needs.
Tension
Caffeine affects everyone differently, but we don’t treat it differently.
Coffee treats caffeine like a standard dose when the amount someone wants can change from one moment to the next.
The Insight
The opportunity wasn't another high-energy coffee or better decaf.
It was the space between them: making caffeine content legible, making intake a choice, and giving people agency over how much they consume.
The Strategic Move
Make caffeine a variable, not a fixed ingredient.
Gradience reframes coffee as personal and intentional through distinct caffeine levels calibrated to different moments and needs.
The Brand
Gradience
The name represents a continuous spectrum rather than an on/off choice, energy that can be fine-tuned to your own level.
Coffee, Calibrated.
Bringing It to Life
Six levels—Trace, Light, Steady, Lift, Flow, and Peak—turn caffeine into a visible system rather than a hidden ingredient, with each level tied to a different degree of stimulation.
A gradient-based identity makes that spectrum immediately recognizable across packaging, digital experiences, and communications, while a level-finder helps consumers identify what fits their routine and tolerance.
The Outcome
Gradience created a new proposition between traditional coffee and decaf: the ritual people already love, with more control over how caffeine fits into their lives.
There’s a level for that.
